Repousse Art at the Market

Date: Saturday, August 18, 2018
Time: 09:00am - 10:30pm
Location: 500-600 Main Street, Atchison

Details

Repoussé is the ancient metalworking technique in which the malleable and thin sheets are detailed by “repoussé-ing” or pushing an intricate design into one side while alternately “chasing” or refining the design from the opposite.  The word repoussé is French and means “pushed up”, ultimately from Latin pulsare, which means “to push”.

The well known death mask of Tutankhamen is a glorious example of repoussé’d art. This example of solid gold, beaten and burnished, was placed over the head and shoulders of Tutankhamen’s mummy, over the linen bandages which wrapped the whole body.

The Atchison Art Association's Patti Boldridge will present the fine art of Repoussé, and teach kids how to create their own Repousee art!  If you want to learn more about this art, as well as partake of the Market's culinary art, come on down and meet us at the Market to discover.  In the meantime, read about Repousse in this excellent blog article.

If you know of any artists, musicians, children’s or adult groups who would like to come to the market, let us know. We have a few open Saturdays this Season.

See you at the Market!
